Live Discover offers an understandable distinction between asking a connected device about current state and querying data previously uploaded to the cloud. Live Response adds a more privileged remediation channel. Those are different control and evidence paths, and the pilot should test both. Keep EDR, broader XDR data and MDR service commitments separate: a query-capable product is not itself a staffed detection operation, and a historic data-lake result cannot prove a device’s current state. SCOPE Confirm the current Sophos Central product and edition instead of relying on older Intercept X packaging. Sophos MDR and the acquired Secureworks portfolio require separate scope and service evaluation. WORTH A LOOK WHEN Sophos endpoint customers building an analyst-led investigation program with clearly governed remote response. THINK TWICE WHEN The team treats offline historical records as live device state or grants broad response access merely to enable querying. IMPLEMENTATION 1. Map data and service entitlements Confirm EDR, XDR and MDR scope and identify which endpoints and server policies will upload data. 2. Pilot query reliability Run a known query against connected and disconnected devices and compare it with the uploaded record. 3. Gate response independently Enable remote response only for approved roles and device groups, then rehearse an authorized reversible action. OPERATING REALITY Administrators must manage data-collection policy, live-query coverage and responder roles. Atlas would make the connected-versus-historical distinction visible in the incident procedure and separately approve computer and server Live Response settings; broad remote remediation authority should not follow automatically from an analyst’s need to search.
