What you are evaluating
This entry uses the Cyber Protect Cloud service documentation. Provider packaging and feature availability vary. Safe recovery is limited to supported Windows machine or volume backups and does not scan non-NTFS volumes; CDP backups have a separate limitation.
A useful evaluation context
Smaller teams and service-provider customers can evaluate integrated recovery while making responsibilities and coverage explicit.
Documented capabilities
The vendor describes these capabilities in the linked sources. Availability depends on the product edition and supported environment.
- The backup module covers supported physical and virtual workloads, files and databases.
- Safe recovery can scan supported Windows backup content during restoration.
- Recovery methods differ by operating system, application and whether bootable media or an installed agent is used.
Where it fits in the work
- Ask the provider to identify enabled backup and recovery features for the lab tenant.
- Protect a small synthetic Windows workload and record its filesystem and backup type.
- Exercise the supported recovery method and inspect the scan status alongside the actual restored data.
APPLY THE IDEA / ILLUSTRATIVE EXERCISE
Make the outcome observable.
Restore a harmless Windows test workload and compare an eligible NTFS volume with an explicitly excluded content type.
Evidence to look for
The report records what was scanned, what was restored without scanning and how the restored application was checked.
Use synthetic data and an authorized test environment. Agree the scope and recovery steps before enabling enforcement.
Questions for your evaluation
- Is this retention setting controlled by the provider or the customer?
- Which volumes are restored without antimalware scanning?
- Can the workload recover if its normal installed agent is unavailable?
