What you are evaluating
Do not confuse this product with the acquired QRadar SaaS portfolio. Analytics extensions and other IBM capabilities have separate compatibility and entitlement requirements; an offense still needs investigation before it supports a response decision.
A useful evaluation context
Consider it when an existing self-managed QRadar estate, operational expertise or infrastructure requirement is central to the decision. Include upgrade, storage and resilience responsibilities in the comparison.
Documented capabilities
The vendor describes these capabilities in the linked sources. Availability depends on the product edition and supported environment.
- Collect and normalize supported event sources for search and correlation.
- Use rules and offense workflows to organize related signals into an investigation.
- Bring available asset and user context into the analyst’s assessment while retaining the underlying event evidence.
Where it fits in the work
- Verify event-source mappings and timestamps for a narrow, documented use case.
- Run a known lab sequence and inspect the rule conditions and records associated with the offense.
- Compare the result with a benign sequence, then test operational tasks such as collection-health checks and evidence export.
APPLY THE IDEA / ILLUSTRATIVE EXERCISE
Make the outcome observable.
Create synthetic authentication failures followed by a permitted lab sign-in, and document a rule intended to correlate the sequence.
Evidence to look for
Show the offense and the contributing records. Explain how a parsing error or a shared identity changes the conclusion and prove that an unrelated benign sequence is handled appropriately.
Use synthetic data and an authorized test environment. Agree the scope and recovery steps before enabling enforcement.
Questions for your evaluation
- Which exact IBM product and deployment does the proposal cover?
- What source mappings, extension versions and entitlements are needed for the intended investigation?
- Who operates upgrades, collection monitoring, retention and recovery of the installation?
