Vectra AI Platform (Network)

Vectra’s network offering associates behavioral detections with entities that analysts investigate. Its triage guidance is useful for learning how to handle authorized activity: a carefully scoped filter can change prioritization without making all evidence disappear.

What you are evaluating

The scored scope is Network detections in Respond UX with the documented network investigation workflow. Identity and cloud-log detection surfaces, Match, Stream, extended search and staffed MDR require an explicit entitlement check; do not assume the whole platform is one license.

A useful evaluation context

SOCs evaluating entity-based network investigations and repeatable handling of known benign behavior.

Documented capabilities

The vendor describes these capabilities in the linked sources. Availability depends on the product edition and supported environment.

  • Network observations support entity-oriented detection and prioritization.
  • Triage rules can scope known behavior by attributes such as host group, port or domain.
  • Public Respond UX API and appliance-health documentation support integration and operational monitoring.

Where it fits in the work

  1. Validate the sensor’s actual traffic coverage and identity attribution.
  2. Review the detection evidence and determine whether the activity matches an authorized business process.
  3. If appropriate, create a narrow triage rule and verify that unrelated activity remains visible.

APPLY THE IDEA / ILLUSTRATIVE EXERCISE

Make the outcome observable.

A lab backup system generates an unusual-transfer detection during an approved job. Propose a filter limited to the relevant hosts, destination and behavior, then review a different transfer outside that scope.

Evidence to look for

Record the filter conditions, expected score effect and rollback. Explain the difference between reducing prioritization and asserting that the underlying behavior is harmless forever.

Use synthetic data and an authorized test environment. Agree the scope and recovery steps before enabling enforcement.

Questions for your evaluation

  1. Is this Respond UX, where AI-Triage cannot be disabled, or Quadrant UX with different controls?
  2. Which network-search retention and response functions are included in the quote?
  3. How are triage changes reviewed so that filters do not hide a real incident?
